Introduction of New Member: David Gepner 4817 Dunberry Lane. Mr. Gepner stated he is interested in serving Edina and has been active in the Minnesota Transportation Museum at Lake Harriet. Ill. Woodale School: Mr. Dunwiddie indicated that the Board submitted additional material in written form to the City Council for consideration at the March 18, 1985 Meeting. The material included a computerized proforma for operating expenses as a public building. Nevertheless, the council voted unanimously in favor of tearing the building down. The demolition is scheduled August 1, 1985. The Board was able to present a strong case for preser- vation of the school and that material is in the public record. The council has established a citizens committee to study the development of Wooddale School Park, The EdinaMite Ball will be held in the school July 13. The Edina Historical Society will require a new permanent location and temporary quarters will probably be at the Community Center. The reconstruction of West 50th Street may present an opportunity to excavate the remains of the Craik House which stood in the middle of what is now the right-of-way for West 50th St. according to the 1924 Hennepin County highway plans. IV. Foster Green Farm: 7440 Cahill Rd. Mr. Dunwiddie reported that he inspected the site with Mr. Sand to consider the significance of the existing structures and determine if there is evidence of any earlier structure. Research about the site indicates that it was settled in 1879 by John Carey and has been continuously occupied since that time. The Hennepin County History States: John Carey is the owner of 93 3/4 acres of land on sections 8 and 9, Richfield Township, 45 acres being under cultivation. He was born in Tipperary, Ireland, June 14, 1826, and remained there until nearly 20 years of age, when he came to America. Resided in New Jerseyone year, thence removing to Maryland, where he remained until 1855, when he came to Minnesota and purchased the farm he has since occupied. Was married to Ann Regan, a native of Ireland, . in 1854. They have had twelve children, ten now living. Lizzie, James, Mary, Maggie, John, Nora, Jeremiah, William, Patrick, Agnes. 2. The present structures were constructed around 1915 to 1920 and there is no evidence of any earlier structures on the site. The present owner, Foster Green, moved to the site in 1,946 with his parents. The family operated a general farm with cows, horses, hay, oats, corn, etc. until 1961. According to the 1879 plat map, Cahill Road ran diagonally across the site from north-east to south-west before the road was straightened to its present alignment. There is evidence of the old roadway remaining on the site and the dwelling was oriented to the roadway and thus is at an angle in the site. Mr. Green indicated that the present roadway alignment was in use when he moved to the site. The Board concluded that the present structures do not comply with the standards for historic preservation and no further action was taken. V. Edina Expo' 85: Mr. Dunwidd'ie reported that the Board shared a room with the Edina Historical Society at Edina Expo' 85. The display included a map and slide show of the Historic Driving tour, information about the County Club District walking tour, the Model homes and Wooddale School. The attendance was not as good as Expo' 83. The Board discussed ways to promote the Historic Driving Tour including letters to civic groups. No further action taken. VI. Certified Local Governments: Mr. Dunwiddie recently attended a work- shop about application requirements for the program. There are 18 Board and Commissions in Minnesota that are eligible. The city may have to modify the Heritage Preservation Destrict requirements and ordinance to comply with the CLG standards. VII. Next Meeting Date: May 28, 1985 at 8:00 P.M. VIII.
