ADJOURNMENT: May 28, 1991 MINUTES OF THE RESCHEDULED MEETING EDINA HERITAGE PRESERVATION BOARD TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 1991, 7:30 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Gary Nyberg, Marilyn Curtis, Herman Ratelle, Lois Wilder and Donald Wray MEMBERS ABSENT: David Gepner, Cy Stuppy STAFF PRESENT: Joyce Repya, Associate Planner I. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Marilyn Curtis moved for approval of the minutes from the February 26, 1991, meeting. Lois Wilder seconded the motion. All voted aye; motion carried. II. COUNTRY CLUB DISTRICT INFORMATION BROCHURE: Ms. Repya presented the Board with a draft copy of the proposed Country Club Brochure. The 8 1/2" X 14" tri -fold brochure consists of six panels. The cover is a replica of the original, sales brochure used by Thorpe Brothers in 1924. The text of the brochure explains the history of the district as well as it's significance on the National Register of Historic Places. Current photographs of several model homes are accompanied by 1920's artists renderings of the same homes exhibiting the sensitivity previous owners have had to the architectural integrity of the buildings. Discussion ensued regarding the placement of text and removal of some verbiage. Herman Ratelle then moved to approve the concept of the brochure with the proposed corrections. Donald Wray seconded the motion. All voted aye; the motion carried. III. OTHER BUSINESS: A. Baird House - 4400 West 50th Street Front Porch Marilyn Curtis, board member and owner of the historic Baird House explained that the front porch of her home which was originally constructed in 1886 has undergone several transformations over the past 105 years and is now in need of repair. Mrs. Curtis presented photographs of the original porch and the 1920's porch which was screened in as they extended it across the front of the house. Since then the screening has been removed, and original roof cresting has been removed. Mrs. Curtis added that she and her husband would like to undertake the porch renovation after the home receives new roof and gutter. Ms. Repya thanked Mrs. Curtis for advising the Board of the upcoming plans for the Baird house. She went on to explain that without plans to review, the Board would be unable to take action. Ms. Repya invited Mrs. Curtis to present the porch renovation plans to the Planning Department afterwhich they will be reviewed by staff who will write a report and recommendation to the Board. The porch renovation would then be added as an agenda item for action. The Board continued to discuss the history of the porch. No formal action was taken. IV. NEXT MEETING DATE: May 28, 1991 V. ADJOURNMENT: Herman Ratelle moved for adjournment at 8:40 p.m. Donald Wray seconded the motion. All voted aye; motion carried. l
