HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-12-02 Robotics Day In Edina ore Cn CIoRPOP n"gyp 1688 PROCLAMATION ROBOTICS DAY IN THE CITY OF EDINA Whereas: FIRST is an organization that seeks to inspire school students to be science and technology leaders through an exciting competition-based, after-school activity; and Whereas: During the last ten years the number of active FIRST robotics teams in the Edina School District has grown from one high school team with 16 students, to 18 teams active at all levels from kindergarten to high school and serving more than 150 students; and Whereas: At the elementary school level, FIRST Lego League and now Junior FIRST LEGO League, have grown over 7 years from 2 teams to 10 teams taking part in this year's competition; and Whereas: At the middle school level, FIRST Tech Challenge, has grown over 7 years from I team to 7 teams taking part in this year's competition; and • Whereas: The FIRST Robotics Competition is now a Minnesota State High School League program, the first such state-sanctioned program for high school robotics teams, setting an example for the rest of the nation; and Whereas: This year Edina, for the first time, hosts a FIRST Tech Challenge competition, a FIRST Lego League tournament, and the inaugural Junior FIRST Lego League Expo in the Twin Cities metropolitan area all on the same day at Edina High School and Valley View Middle School; and Whereas. All FIRST teams seek to make STEM a more integral and celebrated part of our community. With all of the challenges we now face as a nation, the FIRST Robotics program continues to be a vital to our community's future well-being and prosperity. Now, therefore, the City Council of Edina, does hereby proclaim Saturday, December 13, 2014, as ROBOTICS DAY IN THE CITY OFINA In witness thereof, I have here unto set by hand this 2nd day of Decembe 0 4.
