PARK BOARD MINUTES -2- 3. Multiple Use of Buildings. August 1, 1960 Bath house --general agreement that golf club house and pool bath house functions mast be split, but that pool bath house could serve as in dual capacity as a recreation center. Golf Club House --Could serve in dual capacity for winter sports headquarters as well as for social purposes. The Board was reminded that the National Golf Foundation people had pointed out that for a successful public golf course the course itself was paramount. The Golf Club building could be a very modest one, but it must be a high quality course to attract players. The N. G. F. people also stated that on a public golf coarse over 90% of the players come dressed for play and do not expect to shower and have elaborate club house facilities. 4. Maintenance Areas. The idea of two maintenance areas met with general approval. The golf course maintenance area is to serve the golf course only. Preferably this should be located as centrally with in the course and yet be as inconspicuous as possible. The proposed location seems well suited. The maintenance for the remainder is to be centered outside of the golf course area. In this area too wouid,be the facilities to house the golf course maintenance machinery and equipment over the winter as viell as repair services., Study should be given to the possibility of making this area the main maintenance area for the entire Edina Burk system. b. hakes. People are attracted to mater. In this park the most economical use for some areas would be to dredge out and make into clear mater areas. The soil material so dredged would be of use in the park development. 6. Further Acquisition of land Adjacent to Park. The Board strongly reaffirmed a previous action, that of recommend- ing that the piece in the north west corner* be acquired. *(between the present park boundary and the new alignment of County Road 18) As to the south east corner further acquisitfan should depend upon the location of the north -south road extension of Gleason Road southward to Highway 5. It would be very desirable to have this road serve as the east park boundary. Action on this should be deferred until this road location is set. T. Entrances. Proposed entrances appear to be satisfactory. The possibility of a third entrance in the south gest corner, if needed, was noted. 8. Interior Road System. The interior road system with the golf course lying within the road was considered as generally satisfactory. There was agreement that there should be no road cutting through the middle of the course. 9. Parking Areas. In general the locations proposed are O.K. The size, number, and location of would be determined as experience parking space. 10. Suggested that perhaps a place could be found where cars could drive up fairly close. 15. Nature Area. Preservation of as much natural beauty and wild life as possible if of great importance. For development of a bird sanctuary it was recommended that Mr. Whitney Cartmen be consulted. Consideration be given for a wild flower garden.
