On street parking makes good! sense, Try it for one year without a parking lot., the parking lot will be nothing but an eye sore and will cause a local problem we do not want to eVerience," Nrl MU stated that he would be agreeable to the idea of leaving out the parking lot entirely and wait to see what happens, 11, r. The question was also raised as to the earlier proposed buffer plantings? This Mr, Hill answered by stating that with thelparking lot out the need for buffer planting is rem6ved, Also Vhat there has long been agreement that buffer planting along Minnehaha Boulevard would not be done as this would obstruct the view of the park from residents to the east. Mra Ull suggested that the Council be notified that the Park Board ree- omminds that the parking area not be dcae this spring. VLr. French reminded the Board that the off street parking lot to include 30 cars on the Minnehaha Boulevard side of the park was included at the specc direction of Vae Council. It was felt that in viev of the objections ofthe neighbors and the reasonableness of their request that the parking lot should not be con- structed, this spring., nor until use indicated.it is needed. Mr, Wheeler seconded the motion,, It carried. The Board concurred with the recommendation to reject the lone, bid on Highlands Park improvements and to re -advertise improvements at Highlandsp 52nd and Arten., and Jackson & Belmore F 11 1 - # ; , Mr. French reported at some length on various MWects of the park maintenance program and presented charts wereon the mowing 4Wd other turf care will be recorded during the season as it is done, This vill provide a camulative record. Discussion followed whereir. several questions arose on the general matter of the level or quality of maintenance to be achieved. The Board asked Mr, French to write up a raDort to cover such items as litter removal, watering,,, trTe trimming.. weed controls moving# fertilizing, tree spraying, etca From such a report the Board expects to detennine the kind and qual , ity of maintenance that is desireable and achievable,, and subsequently present to the Council recomnendations for CouneWs consideration. The final outcome to be a setting of park maintenance policies by the Council which should thereafter be implemntedc Mr. leicls moved that the meting be adjourned. Mr. Stevens seconded the motion.
