PRESEN0 Mazons. Hill, ChaArmany Crinkley, Lewis, Stevens. Messrs.

i REQUEST TO,EUY LOT SOUTH OF 54TH STREET AT SOUTH END OF AR EN PARK
Mr. FrGnch reported that jr. Peabody, who is present tonightg
desirGs to purchnns the small parcel of land on the south Ade of
54th Street next to the creek and at the south end of Arden Park;
that he wants this piece to go with the lot just south of this so
he can build on that lot. Also, Mr. PeAbody desires easement across
park proparty on the Park Piece frontage.
N Paabody was introduced and maJe his own statement which was
essentially vs Mr. Fra nch had.stated. Mr. VA. Erickson, real es-
tate agent, who is representing Mise Billings, oNner of lot Peabody
proposes to buy, also spoke on behalf of Mr. Peabody !s need to get
the park pacel and how deli r'ab le it would be to the neighborhood
to have the house which Peabody has planned to build.
Mr. Lee Todd, 5404 PaTk Place, then spoke in opposition to sell-
ing the park parcel, not just to Peabodyi but to anybody. Mr. Todd
stated he lives directly across the street and feels that the prop-
erty should always remain park property. it is a cool, vaefreshing
nook which is play spot for many children and enjoyed by adults as
well. He stated that some time in the future the bridge is to be
widened and when widened it should be raised. At a higher elevation
quite a problem would be presented to anyone trying to get automobile
access in and out of the propenty from 54th Street as Mr. Peabody
proposes to do. A traffic hazard would be created. Mr. Todd questions
the Village's right to sell the park parcel.
After discussion the Board requested that Nir. French check with
the attorney on th; right to sell, and on the legality of an easement
such as is requeste6 and the matter was laid over to the next meeting.
!I. GAS; IN PROPERTY AND STORM DRAINAG2 POND.
Mrs. Woodrow Floten and Reverend Smith, who live in homas abutting
the proposed ponding area desc2ibed the flooded street and yard con-
ditions they have and urged that the Park Board act favorably on the
arsao
Discussion was had and the Board took the position that the Council
be advised that storm drainage is not the responsibility of the Park
Board; the Board questions the park and recreation value of the proposed
drainage pond area and does not propose that park funds be used for ac-
quisition of this property. However, if the Village does acquire the
property with other then park funds the Park Board has no objection
and if the area can provide recreation space, so much the better.
