Mr. Robert Crabb, Mr. Ed Braddock, Mr. Samuelson representing Southdalre R"Ity Co, in pursuing their interest in the building of their proposed apart. meat hoose area. Mrs Crabb presented their case in detail ending with the statement that at its meeting on April 28 the Council had approved their plans subject tp satisfactorily most the stipulations of the Park Board. Considerable discussion followed. Although not made a matter of record at the time of the transaction for Cornelia Park property' it was reported by pre- sent board members who were on the board at the time of the park bond election that it w,.s their understanding that the land requirement for park dedication for Southdale was satisfied with the acquisition of the Cornelia Park areas both land and water. Mr. Hill moved that it be recommended to the Council that of the land owned or controlled by Southdale Center The., and/or Southdale Realty Co., as of the time of the Cornelia Park transaction that with the acquisition by the Village of what is known as Cornelia Parks, certain water areas and parcels south of 66th St, that dedication of park acreage is satisfied. Mr. Crinkley seconded the motion. It passed unanimously. Mr. Lexis stated that in connection with the apartment house area since there is no longer a park dedication requirements, that Mr. Crabb's request for Park Board approval of the apartment house development be approved,- refore, Mr. Lewis moved that the Council be advised that the Park Board riscommends approval of the apartment construction plans. However' the Park Board strongly urges that suitable play areas be provided by the developers. Mr. Mll seconded the motion. It carried unanimously. Mrs Crabb responded by stating that it was their intention to provide well designed and adequate play areas along the l i nes ,of what he had discussed with MLS. French previously, That such areas were to be mainly for small chil-• type# but also useable by adults for such activities as volley ball, ba ton, etc., but not to include large playing fields for baseball, football and the like. Strachauer advised that a letter of appreciation should be sent to Mr, Boa lose for the many hours of work he contributed and the fine job he did on the swimming pool season ticket brochure. Also, that a second letter of appreciation be sent to Mrs. E. T. (Phyllis) Stevens for her excellent work in writing Courier releases® Mr. Jaeus raised the question of whether or not it would be advisable to re -"en the matter of season tickets to the pool being made available to Mo side. He stated that he favored including families. After discussion, it was the consensus that unless Morningside, through it's Council,$ officially resl&;d the question that the matter should remain as is. Mr. French read a letter from Mr. Roy Johnson' sports coordinatog for the Aquatennial., requesting permission to hold the Aquatendal Swimming Met in the Pool. (Letter attached) Considerable discussion ensued. Mr. Hill moved and Mr. Crinkley seconded the motion that the Park Board recommends hold- ing the Aquatennial Swimming Meet in the Edina Mnnis.cipal Pool subject to a sats®factory and specific agreement on the following matters: Liability connected with this events Does -Aquatennial insurance cover Edina. That no admission will be charged. That all repairs for anything beyond normal wear and tear mill be paid for by the Aquatennialo That bleachers, if erected, will be done at expense of the Aquatennial and will be removed within 24 hours after the swim meet. That all costs, except the 1 -as of gate receipts directly attributable to the holding of the swim meet will be born by the Aquatennial. After discussion of a change.order to move the west fence at the pool, Mr. Hill moved that Village Manager be advised that it is the Park Board's're- comandation that the fence along the west side of the pool be shifted so that it will came in at the N. W. corner of the concession area and that a concrete awb be installed underneathg that there be no concrete walk constructed out- side of this fence nor outside of the fence south of the wading pool, Mr. Stevensseconded the motion. It passed without dissent. Mr. Brauer presented his cost estimates of work to be done at Cornelia Pk., and parking lot. They are as follows: ' 1. Grading 1000 yda. on site Additional per A. Disappointment was expressed about the atom sewer problem and the fact that it Mould be eo costly to install the culverts, The view was expressed of the need to have the pool parking lot and to do what needs to be done properly. Mr. Hill moved that since items listed above were necessary to pat Cornelia Paris and parking lot in satisfactory condition for use this sea - am that ne; essary money be transferred from unallocated park development funds to Cornelia Park to accomplish this. Mr. Jacus seconded the motion. It passed 4 to 1. The Board set Saturday morning May 10, 8=00 A. M. for a special meeting to consider construction bids and to"prepare recomandation for Council action.
