The matter of naming se discussion. It
g of Edina Parks came under con'iderdbl
was the consensus that of the several methods discussed in, drawing attention
and, interest tel the namir4g, of Edinia Parks, that this not, be done through a
contest. Mr. George Weatherbee was designated, in a previous meeting, to be
the Park Board member to work particularly on this problem and Mr. Weather -
bee reported that as yet he had done nothing specific but offer reed the
followil suggestionstlAhat parks could be named after prominent people in
Edina, 2 after historical events or places, or early settlers.' X that the
parks could carry the narre of a suitable geographical location. He pointed
out that Wooddale Park was the only Nark thus far which actually has an
official name and the Pajrqc has baen dedicated in that dame. The three park
areas. the Park Board now, id'sh". to see officially named. are those Park
areas now refevred to as Peel.a Park., 11ormandale Park., and 52nd and Arden.
Mr., 1.'eatherbee suggested that peer'nair, one way to draw attention of the
people to this problem and arouse thekx% interest was to run an article in
the Bdina1onningside Courier with) a space or coupon on, the bottom of the
article which could be cut out and park names suggested thereon and these
could be mailed in by the reader to the Park Board. The Park Board felt
this was a very good idea an,11 urged that Mr. Weatherbee go ahead and write
the article and gett, it placed in the Courier and hope that the results
fron, the readers, wcauld, be gratifying.
The meeting, adjoin ed at 9:40.
