last meeting the plan the Park Board had presented to the Edina Village Council.
The complete report was read at this time.
The Matter of hiring a full time recreational.director to replace Mr. Merriman,
who has asked to be released from this position, was discussed.
Rev. Keller asked about supervisors for the individual parks. fir. Strachauer
said that there were individual play ground instructors for two of the areas
during the six week surmrer program in addition to those individuals serving on
the Swimming and baseball program. This entire program has been under the
supervision of Mr. IFerriman. The wooddale PTA and the Normandale group
contributed financially to their programs.
The question was asked whether it was necessary to have a director during the
school year as the students are so busy with their school program.
Mr. Utley pointed out the necessity of coordinating the school and park facilities.
Rev. Keller felt that the School Board would be glad to cooperate with the Park
Board if they were presented ivith a concrete plan.
After much discussion about the need for, qualities and duties of a recreational
director, the motion was made that the park board prepare a written statement for
this committee showing:
1. The need for a fall time recreational director.
2. The qualities such a person should have.
3. The duties to be carried out by a recreational director.
This statement is to be mailed to the committee as soon as possible.
The next meeting will be November 6, 1951 at the Village Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
