Park Board Committee and the Edina Park Board was held in the .Edina Village Hall on October 111, 1951 at 6:010 P.M. Those present were: Mr. Hermann Strachauer Mr. W.Claude Stevensen, Mr. Howard Merriman Rev. Paul Keller Mr, Harold Utley Mr. John Bryya.n Mr. Harry 14rench Mr,. Bower Hawthonne Mr. Richard W. Whitten Jr. Mrs. C. H. Patterson Mr. Austin D. Norton Mrs. Alan Charbonneau Mrs. James E. Scholefield Mrs. George M. Posselt Mrs. L. Bemis Mr. Hawthorne opened the meeting by explaining to those i4he were absent at.the last meeting the plan the Park Board had presented to the Edina Village Council. The complete report was read at this time. The Matter of hiring a full time recreational.director to replace Mr. Merriman, who has asked to be released from this position, was discussed. Rev. Keller asked about supervisors for the individual parks. fir. Strachauer said that there were individual play ground instructors for two of the areas during the six week surmrer program in addition to those individuals serving on the Swimming and baseball program. This entire program has been under the supervision of Mr. IFerriman. The wooddale PTA and the Normandale group contributed financially to their programs. The question was asked whether it was necessary to have a director during the school year as the students are so busy with their school program. Mr. Utley pointed out the necessity of coordinating the school and park facilities. Rev. Keller felt that the School Board would be glad to cooperate with the Park Board if they were presented ivith a concrete plan. After much discussion about the need for, qualities and duties of a recreational director, the motion was made that the park board prepare a written statement for this committee showing: 1. The need for a fall time recreational director. 2. The qualities such a person should have. 3. The duties to be carried out by a recreational director. This statement is to be mailed to the committee as soon as possible. The next meeting will be November 6, 1951 at the Village Hall.
