PROCLAMATION
JOHN SHERMAN DAY
JULY 3, 2016
WHEREAS, John Sherman was born and raised in the Twin Cities and graduated from Augsburg
College in 1972; and
V�'HEREAS, John Sherman coached the Augsburg College Baseball team and Minnesota Transition
Class A boys basketball team; and
WHEREAS, John Sherman has been an employee of Sun Newspapers Sports and has been covering
all Edina sports venues since 1972; and
WHEREAS, John Sherman has received Minnesota Newspaper Association Awards for his Best
Sports Section, and
WHEREAS, John Sherman has been elected to Minnesota American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame,
Minnesota High School Football Coaches' Hall of Fame and our own Edina High School
Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS. John Sherman is and has been a household name within every Edina sports loving family
and according to John the best thing about working in Edina is: "Meeting so many good
people, who have adopted me as their own"; and
V, HEREAS, John Sherman has been selected as the Grand Marshall of the 2016 Fourth of July
Parade, therefore
NOW, THEREFORE, I,James B. Hovland, Mayor of Edina, do hereby proclaim July 3, 2016 as
JOHN SHERMAN DAY
in Edina to hcmor John's long period of service to the residents of our o u ity.
