PROCLAMATION
ROTARY DISTRICT 5950 DAY
APRIL 28, 2017
WHEREAS, Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders and problem-solvers,
who come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad;
and
WHEREAS, for more than 110 years, Rotary members have used their passion, energy, and intelligence
to take action on sustainable projects from literacy and peace to water and health; and
WHEREAS, Rotarians are always working to better our world, and stay committed to the end; and
WHEREAS, Rotarians believe that they have a shared responsibility to take action on our world's most
persistent issues, working together to:
Promote peace;
• Fight disease;
• Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene;
• Save mothers and children;
• Support education;
• Grow local economies; and
WHEREAS, District 5950 of Rotary International is a group of 63 Rotary Clubs located in Central and
Southwestern Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, these clubs represent 41 Minnesota communities ranging in size from Minneapolis to
Springfield;
WHEREAS, District 5950 is one of 529 Districts in 166 countries throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, District 5950 is consistently ranked in the top ten to 15 Rotary Clubs of more than 31,000
local Rotary Clubs in the World, in terms of monies raised for charitable giving and in
other areas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Edina is honored to have Rotary District 5950 holding its Annual District
Conference today in the City of Edina;
NOW THEREFORE, I James B. Hovland, Mayor of Edina, hereby officially roclaim Friday, April 28,
2017, as Rotary District 5950 Day in the City of Edina.
