Members In Attendance: Surya Iyer, Dianne Plunkett Latham, Raymond O’Connell, M. Germana Paterlini, Bill Sierks, Julie Risser, John Owens, Ian Nelson Members Absent: Sean Wenham Staff Present: Jane Timm Others Present: G.E. (Spud) Carpenter John Madole Mark Peterson Bob Gubrud Eric Simmons 4th Grade Presentation -Jonathan Peterson, Will Lonnquist, Michael O’Neil, Patrick Jackson & families 1. Welcome & Call to Order 2. 4th Grade Presentation A group of 4th graders doing a Lego Challenge Project gave a PowerPoint presentation about conserving energy in Edina City Hall. 3. Discussion and Approval of Agenda Commissioner O’Connell made a motion to approve the meeting agenda. Commissioner Owens seconded. Motion carried. 4. Discussion and Approval of October 17, 2007, Meeting Minutes The Commissioners discussed the revisions of the Minutes. After discussion Commissioner Risser made a motion to approve the revised Minutes. Commissioner O’Connell seconded. Motion carried. 5. Discussion and Approval of Committee Members Chair Sierks explained the committees, and subcommittees with the recommendations of volunteers. Paul Thompson, Education & Climate Change; Tim Brownell, Climate Change; Kathleen Lundgren, Education; Bob Gubrud, Education; Kandace Ellis, Education; Jeannie Hanson, Education; Jim Jones, Climate Change; Bob Genovese, Climate Change; Michele Steinke, Recycling; Eric Simmons, Climate Change; George Crolick, Climate Change; Robert Clinton, Climate Change; Ralph Herda, Climate Change; Eric Gustafson, Education; Steve Wietgrefe, Climate Change; Judith Smith, Education. Commissioner O’Connell made a motion to accept and approve the volunteers to join the committees. Commissioner Iyer seconded the motion. Motion carried. 6. Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan) Commissioners discussed the timeline of Energy and Environment Commission’s section of the Comp Plan. They also discussed public community meetings in regards to the Energy and Environment’s chapters of the Comp Plan. No formal action. Commissioner Riser left to attend Planning Commission meeting. Commissioner Latham discussed her thoughts on some changes to the Energy and Environment Comp Plan. Other Commissioners will try to get their changes to Secretary Timm by December 12, 2007, and she will put it together for discussion at the December meeting. Most Commissioners will not be able to get their parts done until January 2008. 7. Committee Updates Commissioner Owens gave an update on the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open. Mariah Power handout was distributed. They are willing to donate one wind turbine. Commissioner Nelson gave an update on recycling and volunteers at the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open. Commissioner Sierks will talk to City Hall and City of Edina’s Communication Department about advertising the U.S. Open and what they are doing to make the event “Green.” Commissioner Plunkett Latham gave an update of the Recycling and Solid Waste Committee meeting. 8. Other Business The Commission discussed combining the Energy Fair with the Edina Dialogue event. The Commission discussed the Proclamation they accepted at the City Council meeting regarding America Recycles Day. Commissioner Paterlini gave an update on ICLEI Software. The Commission discussed getting an intern from a local college to join the committee. Commissioner O’Connell gave an update on Pentagon Park going “Green.” 9. Public Comment Resident Mark Peterson of Cedars of Edina would like to work with the Education Committee regarding apartments, condos, and townhouses. Resident Paul Thompson gave an update on the Morningside Recycling Project. 10. Adjournment Commissioner O’Connell made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Paterlini seconded. Motion carried.
