Since Nov. 15, 12 residential burglaries have been reported. The majority have occurred during the day, with forced entry gained into the home through the backdoor. Jewelry and electronics were reported stolen in many of the burglaries. “If you see something that looks suspicious, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1,” said Sgt. Nate Mendel. The first step in preventing home burglaries is to lock all doors and windows. Residents should also consider the following options to increase the security of their home: Exterior Lighting Leave on exterior lights at night and install motion lights in all vulnerable areas. Doors/Locks/Strike Plates Exterior doors should be made of a solid wood or steel. Install deadbolt locks on all doors. Deadbolt locks should be of good quality and have a one-inch throw. Add security strike plates – a six-inch strike plate installed on the door frame that uses six three-inch screws. Windows Install pins in double hung windows. Remove the cranks on casement windows. Lights and Noise When you leave your home, put a lamp and radio on a timer. If you have information regarding these incidents or suspects, contact the Edina Police Department at 952-826-1600, any time of day. Your identity may remain confidential. The Edina Crime Prevention Fund is the sole judge of any point of contention regarding the reward, and any decision on any issue connected with the reward is final. - 30 -
