The Dorothea Nelson Award, one of nine professional commendations given out annually by the MRPA, is awarded to a female professional with 10 or more years of service who has made outstanding service and contributions to the parks & recreation field and MRPA. “Roxann has worked her entire career on providing exceptional services for the residents in the communities in which she has served and also for our fellow professionals in our state professional organization, the MRPA,” said Director of Parks & Recreation Ann Kattreh. “We are very proud of her.” Maxey graduated in 1999 from Mankato State University from the Allied Health and Nursing Department with a Parks, Recreation and Leisure Planning and Management focus. Throughout college and after graduation, she worked for the City of Brooklyn Park as a Youth Development Program Manager. Maxey then worked for Westonka Public Schools as a Middle School Athletic Director in addition to managing the aquatics program for the City of Mound and the school district. She spent the last 13 years at the City of Roseville Parks and Recreation Department, the most recent three years as manager of Cedarholm Golf Course. During this time she was also the Department Marketing Manager. She began work for the City of Edina in 2015. “All of these opportunities happened because of my relationship with Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association and its members,” Maxey said in her acceptance speech. “The opportunities I have been able to participate in have allowed me to meet and build relationships with outstanding professionals in the field.” City leadership is proud of Maxey’s most recent accomplishment. “Roxann is very deserving of this honor and we are thrilled to have her on the City of Edina Parks & Recreation team,” said Susie Miller, General Manager of Braemar Arena and Braemar Field. Maxey is the third Edina Parks & Recreation employee to receive the Dorothea Nelson Award since 1990. Miller received the award in 2006.
