At a Feb. 17 work session, the City Council reviewed various building alternatives for a potential public facility in Grandview on the site of the former Public Works facility at 5146 Eden Ave. The program/scope alternatives were paired with estimated construction and operating costs to help facilitate a thorough review of the options. The City Council directed the project team to further explore a building option which includes the following program categories: Art Center Center for Active Adults (Senior Center) Commons/community gathering areas Wellness/multi-purpose rooms Café/restaurant Event space (250 person banquet capacity) “The next step in the feasibility study process is to apply these programs into the Grandview site and explore how they can best fit and be configured into the space for the best outcome,” said Parks & Recreation Director Ann Kattreh. Areas of importance in this stage of the study include: connection to urban context; main entry access; access to below-grade parking; service access; building orientation; access to daylight/views and outdoor space, and others. “This takes refinement even further, moving from conceptual design to actual diagrams, floor plans and 3D models.” The feedback from the open house will help the project team with the floorplans to achieve the best look, feel and programming interaction for the site. The analysis will be expressed in floor plan diagrams and 3D building massing studies which explore the building’s size, shape and height.
