Working Groups Seek New Members
Edina, Minn., May 19, 2016 – The Energy & Environment Commission (EEC) is developing two new working
groups. The Business Energy Efficiency and Residential Energy Efficiency working groups seek applications to fill
open seats.
The Business Energy Efficiency Working Group will be chaired by EEC Member Carolyn Jackson and the
Residential Energy Efficiency Working Group will be chaired by EEC members Jeff Burmeister and Sanat
Mohanty. Both working groups strive to reduce the community’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by
2025 through strategies and actions that are sustainable, practical and measurable. The Business Energy
Efficiency Working Group will focus on business efficiency in Edina while the Residential Energy Efficiency
Working Group will work with residents.
This goal will be achieved by working with the Partners in Energy Group, an Xcel Energy Community
Partnership focused on energy management, to create awareness and engage businesses to take action to
conserve and increase energy efficiency; recommend best practices and policies for energy efficiency and
conservation to meet established conservation goals; work with conservation and sustainability staff and
Partners in Energy to quantify the baseline consumption of energy; and put an action plan together to reduce
usage and assist with developing effective communication strategies for the EEC, City Council and the public.
“The Partners in Energy planning process is coming to an end and the group is developing an energy action plan.
They’re focusing on three sectors: residential, business and City operations,” said Environmental Engineer Ross
Bintner. “The EEC felt that they needed specific support for each section. City operations will be addressed
through a subcommittee of the EEC, while residential and business will receive support through these two
working groups.”
Both working groups are open to individuals who live or work in Edina. Working group members should plan
on attending a monthly meeting, as well as make a time commitment of up to four hours each month. Members
of a working group serve as volunteers and are not a part of the Commission’s active members. Apply online at
