City Seeks Proposals for Vacant 50th & France Site
Edina, Minn., Aug. 16, 2016 – The City of Edina’s Housing & Redevelopment Authority seeks development
proposals for a City-owned vacant site at 50th & France.
The site, located at 3930 W. 49 ½ St., was acquired by the City in 2013 in anticipation of expanding public
parking. By issuing the Request For Proposals (RFP), the City intends to find a qualified developer that is
capable of delivering a new project that includes new public parking and new commercial space that is
successful in the marketplace and complementary to the character of 50th & France.
“Over the past several months, a number of different real estate developers have expressed interest in
building on the site,” said Economic Development Manager Bill Neuendorf. “We believe this site presents a
unique opportunity where the City can achieve its community goal of better public parking, while enhancing
the 50th & France district with additional commercial space.”
It is anticipated that a preferred developer will be selected this fall with the two parties entering a formal
agreement in early 2017. Any real estate transaction will be subject to zoning approvals and most likely to
take place in late 2017.
Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. All submittals will be evaluated by a team of City staff and may
include representatives from 50th & France. In-person presentations by selected responders are tentatively
scheduled for the 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 Housing & Redevelopment Authority work session.
