The designation from the Golf Range Association of America comes a year after the association named the Braemar Golf Dome one of the nation’s Top 50 Stand Alone Facilities. The Braemar Golf Course Driving Range is featured in the December 2016 issue of Golf Range Magazine along such prestigious courses as Blackwolf Run and The Greenbrier. “It’s a nice acknowledgement of the investment the City put in to make it the premier practice facility in the region,” said Braemar Golf Course General Manager Joe Abood. “We now have the largest grass teeing area in the Twin Cities and will have pristine practice conditions throughout the golf season.” The Braemar Golf Course Driving Range at 6364 John Harris Drive underwent a major renovation before reopening in April 2016. The turf teeing area was doubled, so it now can accommodate up to 68 golfers at one time. The range features six realistic target greens at various yardages with surrounding bunkers to give golfers the feeling of playing off of a fairway while practicing. “It simulates the golf experience much better than a traditional range,” Abood said. In addition, the range offers a large grass putting green and a short-game area with multiple greens and a practice bunker. The range’s size and features draw golfers from well beyond Edina. An estimated 2.5 million golf balls are dispensed annually on the range, Abood said. The range will be open during the 2017 outdoor golfing season even while Braemar Golf Course is closed for renovations as it transforms into a 6,941-yard, 18-hole course designed by Richard Mandell Golf Architecture. The course is scheduled to reopen in 2018. The separate Braemar Golf Dome, the largest and longest-hitting indoor range in the Twin Cities area with 46 tee areas on two levels and a large practice putting green, is open throughout the winter.
