Fire Damages Edina Home on Bruce Avenue
Edina, Minn., Jan. 6, 2017 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 5000 block of Bruce Avenue at
7:02 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, after a passerby called 911 to report a fire.
Fire crews arrived to discover a working structure fire in a two-story single-family residence. The second
floor was impacted by smoke, fire and water. However, damage was minimal. There were no injuries.
While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, it appears to have started in the wall of the
master bedroom and then spread to the attic.
“If you smell smoke and don’t know the source, exit the home immediately and call 911,” said Fire Marshal
Jeff Siems. “Firefighters carry special thermal imaging cameras that are able to locate heat or fire behind walls
before it may even be noticeable to the resident.”
The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department received mutual aid from the Hopkins, Richfield and St.
Louis Park fire departments.
