Fire Damages Edina Office Building on France Avenue
Edina, Minn., Jan. 26, 2017 – The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department was called to the 6000
block of France Avenue at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, after a sprinkler alarm was activated.
Fire crews arrived to discover an extinguished fire in medical lab in a multi-story commercial building. A single
fire sprinkler was activated and extinguished the fire, keeping flame damage to the room of origin. However,
the entire sixth floor was impacted by smoke and a portion of the floors below were affected by water. There
were no injuries.
“This could have been a very large and difficult fire to fight,” said Fire Marshal Jeff Siems. “Instead, a single
sprinkler head not only controlled this fire, limiting it to a single room, but actually put it out.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
