Fire Damages Edina Home on Sally Lane
Edina, Minn., Jan. 5, 2017 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 7000 block of Sally Lane at 11:35
p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, after the homeowners called 911 from a neighbor’s house to report the fire.
Fire crews arrived to discover smoke pouring from the home and discovered a working fire in the basement.
Firefighters were able to quickly gain control of the fire. However, the house saw significant smoke and water
damage. There were no injuries.
While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, it appears to have started near the home’s water
heater.
“If you smell gas, get out of the house and call 911 immediately,” said Fire Inspector Brian Hanrahan. “Even if
it’s something the gas company needs to take care of, we’d rather have residents call us first to ensure their
safety.”
Due to the sub-zero temperatures, the Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department received mutual aid from
the Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Richfield and St. Louis Park fire
departments.
“Once fire firefighters get wet, there’s no way for them to dry out and warm up, so we have to call in
additional help,” said Hanrahan.
