HomeMy WebLinkAboutNational Skating Month City of Edina 4801 W. 50th St. Edina, MN 55424 Contact: Lauren Siebenaler, Communications Intern Phone 952-833-9522 commintern@EdinaMN.gov EdinaMN.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Braemar To Celebrate National Skating Month Edina, Minn., Jan. 5, 2017 – Braemar-City of Lakes Figure Skating Club and Braemar Skating School will host a free skating event at Braemar Arena, 7501 Ikola Way, Sunday, Jan. 22 from 1:10 to 2:40 p.m. “It’s an open house for all Edina residents who haven’t been in our programs and current members of the skating school. There will be information to learn more about the skating school and Braemar-City of Lakes Figure Skating Club,” said Kathleen Gazich, Co-Head Professional of Braemar-City of Lakes Figure Skating Club. The event starts at 1:10 p.m. with free open skating and information about Braemar’s skating programs. A short skating demonstration will be presented by members of the Braemar-City of Lakes Figure Skating Club at 2 p.m., followed by more open skating. Braemar’s skating professionals will be on hand to give assistance to new skaters. Skate rental is available for $3. “We will have coaches out there to help people with their first time skating and mini lessons for those who are interested,” said Gazich. Braemar Arena offers programs for all ages and abilities: Learn to Skate (children and adults), Dream Skating (adaptive and therapeutic), Beginning Hockey, Figure Skating, Synchronized Skating and homeschool skating classes. Braemar Arena and Braemar-City of Lakes Figure Skating Club encourage all to participate in this event with free skating, prizes and refreshments! Braemar skater Alexander Johnson will compete at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Kansas City Jan. 22. The competition will be broadcast live on NBC starting at 3 p.m. He was the alternate to the World Team and is currently ranked No. 6 in the United States. “Alexander will be competing at the U.S. Figure Skating Championship the same day.
