The task force will make recommendations on policies, practices and strategies for the City to identify and eliminate race-based disparities in Edina city government facilities, services and institutions. All nine members of this task force will be appointed by the City Council. The City Manager will advise and assist the City Council with the selection of task force members. Volunteers also are sought for three working groups that will support the Race & Equity Task Force: The Services Working Group will focus on the City’s public services, such as public safety, community health and park maintenance. The Facilities Working Group will focus on the City’s public facilities such as parks, City Hall and Edina Liquor stores. The Institutional Working Group will focus on internal City procedures and practices such as employment practices, communications protocols, and advisory board and commission membership. Five members of each working group will be appointed by the City Council. Two members for each group will be appointed by the City Manager. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and Edina residents, except for those appointed by the City Manager. People with strong communication skills, a commitment to race and equity issues, and the ability to work well with others are encouraged to apply. The expected time commitment for Race & Equity Task Force members is 180 hours in 2017. The time commitment for the working groups is anticipated at 90 hours in 2017.
