Chief Building Official wins ‘Code Official of the Year’ Award
Edina, Minn., Feb. 9, 2017 – City of Edina Chief Building Official David Fisher was recently named
the recipient of the Alvin Kleinbeck Award for Excellence and was named the “Code Official of the
Year” by the Association of Minnesota Building Officials (AMBO).
“I am not surprised Dave received this award,” said Fire Chief Tom Schmitz. “He has been in the
business for a long time, he knows a lot of people and he is one of the leaders in the building official
world of Minnesota. He is involved outside of the City in professional organizations. He is well-
connected, well-respected and people reach out to him all the time for advice and direction.”
AMBO is a chapter of the International Code Council (ICC.) AMBO focuses on building code
education and building code development.
“I think this award comes from being involved in the 10,000 Lakes Chapter of ICC for years and
going up through the chairs,” said Fisher. “I was everything from Secretary to the President in
AMBO, going up through the chairs in that, and the Code Development Chair the last two years. I
help people get together to talk about code development and with multiple sections in the building
code.”
Fisher has worked for the City since March 2014. He worked for the City of Maplewood for 13
years before that and 13 years at the City of Brooklyn Center.
