The exhibit will showcase works in oil, pastel and watercolor. Carabio was born on the beautiful island of Bantayan, located at the northern most tip of Cebu, Philippines. He grew up in a family of skilled artists and craftsmen, and as a young boy showed innate skill and great promise. This proved true when, at the age of 11, he won first prize in an “on-the- spot” painting contest in Cebu City. Carabio has become one of the prominent practitioners of the objective realist approach in painting in the Philippines. A self-taught artist who was guided and influenced by his sculptor grandfather, Carabio studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. There, he won a record number of awards early in his career, including the impressive Joe T. Joya Award for three consecutive years. He won five first-place awards in the categories of Representational, Non-Objective and Figurative Abstraction. While in college, Carabio staged his first solo show entitled “Bantayan” at the Casa Gorordo Museum. The exhibit was a tribute to the island of his birth. He continued to have successful exhibits throughout the Philippines and abroad. Carabio moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, and immediately immersed himself in exhibitions and festivals through the Midwest. He is currently a member of the Minnesota Artists Association and the Lake Country Pastel Society. He is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America.
