The local law enforcement explorer post was selected out of 83 posts from across Minnesota and part of Wisconsin. “We are very proud of our Explorers and all that they have accomplished,” said Officer Nicole Frederick, who serves as an advisor of Post 925 alongside officers Mike Sussman and Ricky Harr. “The Explorers continue to put a lot of hard work into this program. Getting recognized like this means a lot to them.” Post 925 received the recognition for its commitment to Exploring, teamwork and community service. Each year, Post 925 assists with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Fourth of July Parade, Safety Camp and Edina’s Homecoming Parade. The Post also collects candy for Saint Joseph’s Home for Children and has packed meals for Feed My Starving Children in the past. Post 925 also came home with the “Journey to Excellence Gold Award,” which is presented to posts from the Northern Star Council that provide a quality program for youth. Explorer Post 925 is made up of approximately 25 Edina and Eden Prairie students interested in law enforcement, ranging in age from 14 to 20. The Explorers learn firsthand about the law enforcement profession through lectures, practical scenarios, ride-alongs and volunteering with the Police Departments. Post 925 is part of a national program that includes more than 33,000 Explorers and more than 8,000 adult advisors. Post 925 has several advisors from both the Edina and Eden Prairie Police Departments. Explorer post 925 is now preparing for the State Explorer Conference held in Rochester in April. The Post plans to send four teams. Post 925 meets every Tuesday at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility in Edina.
