Edina Police Department To Hold Internet Safety
Seminar
Edina, Minn., March 28, 2017 –The Edina Police Department, along with Edina Public Schools and the
Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, will host an Internet & Social Media Safety Seminar from 7 to
8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2 at the Edina High School Performing Arts Center, 6754 Valley View Rd.
The presenation will feature discussion about long-term and emerging online issues and advice on how to
avoid becoming a victim. Making informed decisions, limiting risks and managing consequences will be
emphasized through the program.
"Social media affects our youth on a daily basis. They are provided devices to use with little guidance or
restrictions,” said Officer Dave Boosalis, who served as a School Resource Officer for Edina High School. “It
can be challenging for parents who are not as technology savvy. I see this on a daily basis while working as a
school resource officer at Edina High School. Hopefully this presentation will shed some light and
understanding for parents and students."
Issues discusses will include cyber bullying, “sexting,” techniques used by online predators, disclosure of too
much personal information and Edina Public School’s policies regarding social media use. The event will
conclude with a question and answer session.
The event is free and open to the public. Parents and students are ancouraged to attend.
