Since September, Explorers have put in more than 100 hours training and preparing for the annual conference. “Our Explorers work hard throughout the year and their hard work paid off,” said Patrol Officer Nicole Frederick, one of the Post’s advisors. “They took home numerous awards and we are all really proud of them.” The scenario-based competition required Explorers to act out, in teams of four, realistic scenarios related to law enforcement. The conference is designed to keep Explorers current on their skills, challenge participants and create an environment for learning. Post 925 took home several team and individual awards, including: First place in de-escalation First place in crime prevention First place in crime scene search Second place in domestics Fourth place in bomb Fourth place in arrest and search In addition, Explorer Bennett Breyer took second place overall in the shooting competition. Participants from Post 925 competed against approximately 500 other Explorers during the conference. Explorer Post 925 is made up of approximately 25 Edina and Eden Prairie students interested in law enforcement, ranging in age from 14 to 20. The Explorers learn firsthand about the law enforcement profession through lectures, practical scenarios, ride-alongs and volunteering with the Police Departments. Post 925 has several advisors from both the Edina and Eden Prairie Police departments. In March, post 925 received the “Post of the Year” award for their commitment to exploring, teamwork and community service.
