Fire Damages Edina Home on Valley Lane
Edina, Minn., June 5, 2017 – The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department was called to the 5500
block of Valley Lane at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, June 4, after the homeowner called to report that the garage was
on fire.
Fire crews arrived to discover a working fire in the back of the garage of the single-family home. Fire crews
were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arrival. However, the fire spread to the three-season porch.
While most of the damage was contained to that area of the home, the rest of the house sustained smoke
damage. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“The home’s smoke detectors alerted the residents to the fire,” said Fire Inspector Brian Hanrahan. “Smoke
detectors save lives, but especially at night when families are asleep.”
Smoke detectors should be installed in each bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the
home, including the basement, said Hanrahan.
Fire crews received assistance from the Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Minnetonka, Richfield and St.
Louis Park fire departments.
