FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City to Hold Race & Equity Community Meetings
Edina, Minn., Oct. 2, 2017 – The City of Edina will hold two community meetings for residents to share
their perspectives and experiences related to race-based disparities in Edina. The first meeting will be held
from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Southview Middle School, 4725 South View Lane. A second meeting will
be held Monday, Dec. 4, at a location to be determined.
“Transparency and public input are fundamental to Edina being an equitable community. I encourage residents
to attend a Race & Equity community meeting to share their experiences,” said Jessi Kingston, Co-Chair of
the Race & Equity Task Force. “By coming together, we can help Edina grow and ensure that City policies do
not contribute to the inequitable treatment of our friends and neighbors.”
The Task Force is made up of residents working to examine Edina City government policies and operations to
understand how City practices may contribute to unequal treatment of Edina community members.
During the meetings led by the Citizens League’s facilitation team, residents will be asked to provide insight
on the following questions:
Have you experienced, observed and/or heard race-based discrimination in Edina’s City government,
facilities, services and institutions?
If yes to the previous question, what did you do or wished that you had done to respond to the
incident/situation?
What are spaces, places and faces within Edina that you feel a sense of belonging and that you matter?
What are spaces, places and faces within Edina that you do not feel a sense of belonging and that you
are not welcomed?
If residents are unable to make one of the meetings, volunteers from the Race & Equity Task Force and
Working Groups will host smaller group conversations.
If residents cannot attend any of the in-person meetings, they can still provide input by answering questions
online at EdinaMN.gov/Race-Equity.
