Walk with the Mayor at Centennial Lakes
Edina, Minn., Oct. 2, 2017 – Edina Mayor Jim Hovland will lead the monthly “Walk with the
Mayor” 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S.
This month, “Walk with the Mayor” will take an artistic turn as the event pairs with Public Art Edina.
Walkers will stroll through some of the sculptures that are part of the Public Art Edina annual
rotating sculpture exhibit.
“This is a great opportunity for Mayor Hovland to combine ‘Walk with the Mayor’ and our Public
Art Edina annual rotating sculpture exhibit,” said Executive Assistant, Sulekha Mohammed, who helps
to plan the walks. “Residents will get a chance to discuss topics they are interested in, but also able
to get an insight on sculptures and artists.”
Walkers will also get to use a new mobile app called “WonderWander” that will give them
information on the sculptures and artists. Fourth-grade teacher Shannon Steven, from Cornelia
Elementary School, created “WonderWander” with support from the Arts & Culture Commission
and its Public Art Edina working group.
Participants should meet the Mayor at Hughes Pavilion at 9 a.m. In the event of rain, walkers should
meet at Caribou Coffee in the center court of Southdale Center.
Starting in November, Walk with the Mayor will be held on the third Saturday of the month.
