City Receives Certificate of Achievement for Financial Reporting
Edina, Minn., Nov. 22, 2017 – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the City of
Edina its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This award is given in recognition of
the City’s work in preparing and presenting the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal
year ending in 2016.
“To receive this award, the CAFR must comply with generally accepted accounting principles and GFOA
program policy,” said Finance Director Don Uram. “Many cities throughout the country work to meet these
same expectations and standards and this certificate indicates that Edina has met the highest level.”
This is the ninth consecutive year that the City has received this award. Reports submitted to this award
program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review
Committee, which comprises individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting and includes financial
statement preparers, independent auditors, academics and other finance professionals.
This year, less than 125 cities throughout Minnesota received this award. Recipients go beyond the minimum
requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare the CAFR and present a document with
transparency and full disclosure.
