Edina resident and artist Michelle Recke is putting the final touches – finishing the welding and patina – on the sculpture that will be installed next spring. “I hope the K-9 sculpture will be here watching over Edina for years and years to come,” she said. The Edina Crime Prevention Fund has contracted to work with Elliot Design/Build for the landscaping. This fall, Elliott Design/Build will complete construction of the paver sidewalk, footings for the sculpture base, installation of the sculpture base and electrical connections. In the spring, the garden will be planted and the sculpture and plaques will be installed. Thanks to funding provided by the Edina Federated Women’s Club, Edina Crime Prevention Fund, Edina Community Foundation, the Arts & Culture Commission’s Public Art Edina working group and Friends of the Brave, what was once an idea – a longtime coming – will turn into a friendly greeting as people visit City Hall and the Police Department. “There is no better tribute than to have police canines memorialized for their selfless dedication to making the Edina community safer,” said Sgt. Kevin Rofidal, who worked alongside K-9 partner Kodiak for eight years. For more information, call the Edina Police Department at 952-826-1610. -30-
