Planning Commission Seeks Members for New Working
Group
Edina, Minn., Aug. 17, 2017 – The Planning Commission is looking for members to participate in a
new working group for the 70th and Cahill Small Area Plan. The working group will work with City staff
to engage neighborhood residents, businesses and other stakeholders in the area of 70th Street and Cahill
Road for the purposes of developing and drafting a small area plan as part of the 2018 Comprehensive
Plan Update.
Local residents, property owners and business managers in the 70th and Cahill area are encouraged to
apply online at EdinaMN.gov/657/Small-Area-Plans by clicking on the “70th and Cahill” box. Applications
will be accepted until Sept. 13, with working group members being appointed by the Planning
Commission at its meeting Sept. 27. The working group’s first meeting will be held Oct. 5.
“The City is looking for a mixture of Edina residents from both within the area and outside,” said
Community Development Director Cary Teague. “We need Edina residents who are passionate about
the City’s future, particularly in the 70th and Cahill commercial area, and willing to put in the time and
commitment to the project.”
The small area plan will provide a detailed framework to guide development within the 70th and Cahill
area. Working group members will take a leadership role in creating this framework.
The working group will consist of nine members. Members will be required to attend bi-weekly
orientation and planning meetings (approximately two hours each) and three workshops (approximately
two hours each.) The planning process will take place over approximately six months.
