Battle of the Badges Blood Drive Scheduled for Aug. 23
Edina, Minn., Aug. 1, 2017 – As in years past, Memorial Blood Centers is challenging police and
fire departments around the Twin Cities to participate in the annual Battle of the Badges Blood
Drive.
The Edina Police Department has participated in the event, which promotes friendly competition
between cities, since 2011. This year, 15 cities around the area are participating in the competition.
For its part, the Edina Police Department will sponsor a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St.
“The community continues to show great support for the Police Department, and this is a wonderful
way to do that,” said Lee Renneke, the City’s Environmental Health Specialist. “There are 25 more
donation slots available this year than in the past, so I hope to see a great turnout!”
According to Memorial Blood Centers, one out of every three people will need blood in their
lifetime. The demand for blood is constant.
“There is such a great need, and it only takes a few minutes to help save lives,” said Renneke. “We
all know someone who has benefited from this life-saving gift.”
