Edina Art Center Hosts Annual Members’ Juried Art Show
Edina, Minn., Sept. 14, 2017 – The Edina Art Center will hold its 33rd-annual Members’ Juried Art Exhibition
Thursday, Oct. 5 to Wednesday, Nov. 8. The opening reception will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the
Edina Art Center Margaret Foss Gallery, 4701 W. 64th St.
For 33 years, the Art Center has showcased some of the finest work of Edina Art Center members. Entries
include painting, sculptures, photography, pottery, jewelry and mixed media. Each year, a respected judge from
the Twin Cities’ art community selects work he or she feels best shows exceptional talent and skill. Honors are
presented for the Betsy Bryant Pottery Award, Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, the Crosstown Camera
Club Award and a Peer Award. Over 200 entries are submitted each year and about half of those are selected
to be included in the exhibit.
“This is really a unique show because you’ll find participants who are members because they find the Edina Art
Center is a valuable resource, but they are not necessarily a student, and you’ll find students who have entered
the exhibition. It is really all skill levels and the judges will judge pieces based on their own merits. They judge
them individually based on the skill level of each person,” said Pottery Studio Manager Sandra Shaughnessy.
“Youth are often participating next to people who are seasoned artists who make their living either teaching or
selling work in the arts.”
Hans Gasterland and The Percolators, a local live band that play a range of rock, country and blues, will perform
during the opening reception. Light appetizers, desserts and non-alcoholic drinks will be served.
The opening reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Exhibitors must be members;
membership is $35 per person. Entries are being accepted on 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday Sept. 25 through
Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Edina Art Center.
