Torchlight Concert Aug. 13 Revives Old-Fashioned Fun
Edina, Minn., Aug. 9, 2017 – Step back in time with 25-cent ice cream cones, Ford Model T’s, patriotic
music and old-fashioned fun at the annual Torchlight Concert.
The free fun starts at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at Centennial Lakes Park. Each year, about 3,000 people attend
the event, named for the more than 200 torches and lanterns that light up the park and its walkways.
Before the concert, people can enjoy entertainment including a sleight-of-hand magician, Italian organ grinder
and a mechanical man. Check out “pennyfarthing” bicycles or the boats of the Edina Model Yacht Club.
Gather at 7:45 p.m. for entertainment by Fifes & Drums, followed by the highlight of the night, a concert by
the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band at 8:30 p.m. The night concludes with a fireworks finale with the
band playing “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Centennial Lakes Park, at 7499 France Ave. S., includes 1.5 miles of paved walking trails meandering the scenic
park that features trees, fountains and a large pond. The park is also home to a farmers market on Thursdays
in the summer and the Fall Into the Arts Festival, to be held Sept. 9 and 10.
