The 2016 Emmy nominees were announced Thursday, Sept. 7. The City of Edina received four nomination for “Beyond the Badge,” the City’s monthly public safety program. Nominations were earned in the “Crime” category for a segment on a child sex abuse case; “Public/Current/Community Affairs – Program” category; “Special Event Coverage (other than news and sports)” category for coverage of National Police Week in Washington, DC; and “Editor – Program (non-news)” category for Dietrich Nissen’s work on the show. “Being nominated for an Emmy means a lot to me as it should for any aspiring video producer,” said Nissen, Community Television Administrator. “It's recognition we’re producing pieces our colleagues find informative, engaging and representative of something that connects to people both within and outside our community. The videos I produce are meant to showcase and honor the work our law enforcement and emergency responders do every day. This award nomination is simply an extension of that desire.” The City received two nominations in the “Interstitial” category – one for “Public Art Profiles” and another for “On The Job.” “On the Job” is a program hosted by City Manager Scott Neal, who interviews City employees about their work. “Public Art Profiles” feature the artists whose work is on display in Edina’s public spaces. “Being recognized by the Upper Midwest Regional Emmys with six nominations is a big honor,” said Video Production Coordinator Scott Denfeld. “I’m proud of the work that our production team does, and I’m looking forward to producing more great content for the residents and visitors of Edina in the future.” All City of Edina programming can also be viewed online. Entries made to the Upper Midwest Chapter were judged by panels assembled by other National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chapters. These judging panels are comprised of no fewer than five judges with no more than three of the judges employed by the same station or company. There may be one award, more than one award or no award given in each category. The Communications & Technology Services Department has been nominated for at least two Emmy Awards each year since 2009, and has brought home the gold statuette three times. The Emmy Awards will be presented Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Radisson Blu in Bloomington.
