City, Edina Magazine Honor Photo Contest Winners
Edina, Minn., Sept. 20, 2017 – The City of Edina and co-sponsor Edina Magazine recognized winners of the
2017 Images of Edina photo contest at the Sept. 19 City Council meeting.
This year’s panel of volunteer judges included Angela Johnson of Edina Magazine; Shelly Loberg of Explore
Edina; Michael Braun, an area professional photographer; and Katie Laux, Graphic Designer for the City of
Edina.
“It’s fun to review all the photos from every season of the year in the Edina photo contest,” Laux said. “This
year, many photographers were inspired by the plants and animals of Edina. It was really hard to choose in
that category.”
Photos entered were taken between June 2016 and June 2017 and were entered into one of five categories.
Edina Magazine readers voted online in July to choose the “Readers’ Choice” award. One overall “Best In
Show” winner was chosen of the category winners. The winners of the 2017 Images of Edina contest are:
Plants & Animals and Best in Show – “A Lake Edina Cardinal Amongst Colorful Fall Foliage”
by William Webb
Business – “Centennial Lakes Office Park” by Matt Long
People – “Watching Softball” by Molly Andresen
Community Events – “Marching Band by Moonlight” by Suzanne Magnuson
Places in Edina – “Go Instead Where There is No Path, and Leave a Trail - Emerson” by
Lisa Rose
Readers’ Choice – “Great Blue Heron Near Lake Cornelia” by Russell Stanton
The contest is free to enter and is open to both amateur and professional photographers who reside, work or
attend school in Edina. The 2018 Images of Edina photo contest will open for entries again in Spring 2018.
