The series starts Sept. 9, and all events will be held at the Amphitheater inside the park, 7700 York Ave. Programming on Thursdays is for children and starts at noon. From the Richardson Nature Center with its live reptiles and amphibians to the Woodland Puppet show, there is something for all toddlers and preschoolers. “We really value art and the expression of it, so we try to give kids and their families an opportunity to experience a wide variety of events throughout the year. It’s a great way to bring the community together,” said Dawn Beitel, Assistant Manager of Edinborough Park. Sunday shows for all ages start at 7 p.m. and feature music from area community bands such as Classic Brass Inc., Somewhat Dixieland Band and the St. Paul Police Band. Edina’s own First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band performs the last Sunday of the month. “The Sousa Band really looks forward to the magical indoor amphitheater concerts every month,” said Scott Crosbie, Director of the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band. “The audience is right there, up close and it’s like we’re all in somebody’s big living room having a party with friends, only with bright lights and sparkling band music. It’s perfect!” All events are free and open to the public. For more information, visit EdinboroughPark.com or call 952-903-5780. Keep an eye on the schedule as there are often events added on Tuesday evenings as well. The City Council directed City and school district staff to conduct a transportation study once the expansion of Edina High School was complete. As construction wrapped up, the study reviewed current parking conditions within the adjacent neighborhoods to better understand. After a series of open houses and surveys, recommendations were made to the City and school district. For its part, the City Council approved a resolution last month prohibiting parking between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on school days on the following streets: • Chapel Lane from Valley View Road to Erin Terrace • Chapel Drive from Chapel Lane to Atrium Road • Erin Terrace from Chapel Lane to Chapel Drive • Shane Drive from Erin Terrace to Erin Terrace • McGuire Road from 69th Street to Tracy Avenue • Brook Drive from 69th Street to Tracy Avenue The parking restrictions went into effect Aug. 8. City and school district staff will continue to monitor parking in the neighborhood. In other business last month, the City Council: • Presented Edina resident Kristopher Reuter a Public Safety Certificate of Merit for helping to save the life of a girl earlier this summer. On June 2, an 11-year-old girl was found submerged in the deep end of a swimming pool at an apartment complex in Edina. Reuter jumped in the pool and pulled out the girl, who was under about eight feet of water. He assisted in providing lifesaving efforts, including CPR, until emergency personnel arrived. • Approved a transfer of property to Craft Homes LLC. The City received three bids in June for a lot located at the southwest corner of Xerxes Avenue and West 75th Street. Craft Homes submitted the highest bid of $151,000 for a private development. The City Council will next meet Sept. 20. For more information or agendas, visit EdinaMN.gov.
