With recent developments approved for the Southdale Center site and adjacent areas, concerns have been raised about the operations of the west entrance to the shopping mall from 69th Street. In order to provide for existing and future traffic operations, engineers have designed a single-lane roundabout there. The project is expected to be bid in April, with construction beginning sometime after the flower show at the Galleria and the Race For the Cure. Construction could be complete by the 4th of July. • Made the following new appointments to advisory boards and commissions: Hannah Klein and Michelle Morgan- Nelsen, Arts & Culture Commission; Julia Selleys, Community Health Commission; Scott Dunnigan and Wayne Dvorak, Construction Board of Appeals; Paul Hussian, Energy & Environment Commission; Annie Schilling, Chris Davis and Gabe Aderhold, Heritage Preservation Commission; Jasmine Brett Stringer Moore and Michael Epstein, Human Rights & Relations Commission; Kirk Johnson, Matthew Scherer, Shankar Veluvali, Transportation Commission; Rick Ites, Parks & Recreation Commission; and Lou Miranda, Planning Commission. Greg Wright was reappointed to the Community Health Commission. • Revised the City’s Affordable Housing Policy to add owner-occupied housing. New for-sale or owner-occupied developments identified as affordable units must remain affordable for a minimum of 30 years. • Approved a resolution supporting State legislation that would provide limited liability to protect private commercial salt applicators from being sued if they are certified and following best management practices promoted under the “Smart Salting” training to protect the environment. • Approved a new Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan. • Adopted an ordinance allowing rooftop dining, with certain restrictions, in commercial districts. The conditions include limiting rooftop dining to between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. and ensuring lighting doesn’t disturb area residents or businesses. • Moved forward with a plan to improve the City’s water quality by building a new water treatment plant on the Southdale Center property.
