Preliminary planning for this site began in 2008 and has continued on and off from that time. In 2014, the City held a competitive selection process and interviewed several different development teams to work with. Frauenshuh, Inc. was selected. Frauenshuh, in partnership with the Edina Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA), is preparing an updated redevelopment plan for the vacant property. The new proposal has been developed using suggestions and ideas collected over many years of previous planning efforts. The current proposal includes a mix of civic and private uses with most of the land remaining under public ownership. “For nearly 10 years, the City has discussed the fate of this vacant property. The designers have considered the comments and suggestions collected in the past to inform a new concept that seeks to create a new civic facility to serve the next generation, while attracting new private investment that enhances the Grandview commercial district,” said Economic Development Manager Bill Neuendorf. “This property has generated lots of interest over the years, and we hope residents and other neighbors can stop to learn more and weigh in with suggestions.” Anticipated uses for the site includes a new Edina Art Center, with ability to host programming for seniors; a public parking facility with rooftop public amenities; a residential tower; affordably-priced lofts for artists; and a new restaurant/eatery. The new concept will be presented to the City of Edina Planning Commission Wednesday, Jan. 24, and City Council Wednesday, Feb. 7, for non- binding feedback. Representatives from Frauenshuh and the City will be available to answer questions and hear feedback at the open house. For more information, visit EdinaMN.gov/Grandview. -30-
