Brian Hubbard is being awarded the 2017 Mike Siitari Officer of the Year Award. Hubbard will accept the award at the May 1 City Council meeting. “Brian received multiple nominations highlighting his dedication over the years with many of our outreach programs including Beyond the Badge, Citizens Academy, DARE, School Resource Officers, Night to Unite, Neighborhood Engagement Officers and Family Fun Nights,” said Police Chief Dave Nelson. “Brian’s involvement in Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA), Government Alliance on Race and Equity, and our Race and Equity Task Force were also highlighted in the nominations. The common theme was how well Brian focuses on painting a positive picture of the Police Department and the continued efforts of building supportive relationships with our community.” Hubbard joined the Edina Police Department in 2007 and has served as a Patrol Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Field Training Officer and School Resource Officer. In addition, he organized the Edina Citizen’s Academy, which has seen more than 150 graduates since its inception in 2009. Brian Hubbard’s quality of service, level of dedication and leadership is demonstrated in every aspect of his job and his community involvement. His tireless devotion to the City of Edina, the greater law enforcement community and his willingness to give his time, talents and guidance to everyone he works with is honorable,” Edina Lt. Brian Tholen said in his nomination. The Mike Siitari Officer of the Year award is given to one Edina Police Officer each year. Nominations from the public and City employees are accepted and winners are selected by the Edina Crime Prevention Fund. The Edina Crime Prevention Fund has been a community partner for more than 40 years, helping fund Police Department services and recognize exceptional officers. Past recipients of the award include Officers Joel Moore, Dave Lindman, Jake Heckert, Mike Seeger, Detective Mike Lutz and Detective Erik Amundson. In addition to his good work with the City of Edina, Hubbard also has organized a personal endeavor called Racing for the Community.
