The discussion, which focuses on street parking, will be available until May 31. The Engineering, Police and Public Works department are looking for feedback on the City’s street parking ordinance, as it’s been many years since it’s been reevaluated. Per Chapter 26 of the City Code, no one can park a vehicle for more than six consecutive hours on a street unless in areas designated by signs or if the driver is actively engaged in performing services. It also states from Nov. 1 to March 31, no one can park on any street from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. In this conversation, the City asks: • Other than the seasonal parking restrictions, did you know there was a six-hour parking limit on City streets? • Should the City consider changing the six-hour time limit to a shorter limit, a longer limit or no limit at all. Why do you feel that way? • Students and participants in Parks & Recreation events sometimes use all the available parking spots in an area, so residents are unable to use them. Should there be specific parking restrictions around schools and parks? (i.e., No Parking 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.) Keep in mind, residents would also not be able to park on the streets in the specified areas during those dates and times either. • What are your biggest concerns with parking on City streets? Any suggestions to improve them? In April, the City worked to gather feedback on municipal tree sales. In this conversation, the City asked residents if they would be interested in purchasing a tree through this program and if so, why; how much they would be willing to pay for a 4- to 6-foot tree through the program; if they would consider attending a City tree planting workshop for participants to learn more about tree plantings and maintenance; and what barriers are holding residents back from planting a tree in their yards? Results from the conversation will be compiled and presented to the City Council May 15. The results from the conversation on street parking will be compiled and presented to the City Council June 19. To weigh in on a discussion, visit SpeakUpEdina.org. -30-
