HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 30 Explorers_Post_Conference City of Edina • 4801 W. 50th St. • Edina, MN 55424 Contact: Jake Omodt, Communications Intern Phone 952-833-9522 • commintern@EdinaMN.gov • EdinaMN.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer Post No. 925 Takes Home Awards at Annual Conference Edina, Minn., April 30, 2018 – Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer Post No. 925 spent the April 28 and 29 weekend at the 43rd-annual Explorer Conference in Rochester, Minnesota, learning and earning awards. Explorer Post No. 925 is open to young men and women ages 14 to 21 living in or going to school in Edina or Eden Prairie with an interest in learning more about careers in law enforcement. “The program is important for the students as it not only teaches them about law enforcement and sheds a good light on the profession, but teaches teamwork and leadership,” said Edina Police Officer Ricky Harr, one of the Post’s advisors. “As for the advisors, this program gives us the opportunity to strengthen our community relations.” Post No. 925 competed against more than 500 Explorers from 48 Posts. The Explorers prepared for the conference since September and spent over 140 training for the conference. The Post took second place in Crime Prevention, Traffic Crash Reconstruction and Street Decisions; third in First Aid, Defensive Tactics and Human Trafficking; and fifth in White Collar Crime. Explorer Luisa Chacon took second place in the Slow Fire Shoot, a pistol shooting competition in which competitors shoot 10 shots in five minutes. The Explorers are now training for the National Law Enforcement Conference which will be held at Purdue University In July. Post No. 925 meets weekly and consists of 32 students. Nationally, there are more than 33,000 Explorers and 8,425 adult volunteers who participate in the program.
