Nordhus graduated from the University of Minnesota – Duluth with a degree in Environmental Science before going back to school at Rochester Community Technical College (RCTC) to pursue his interest in law enforcement. While going to school at RCTC, Nordhus worked as a Reserve Officer for the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department where he gained valuable experience. After his graduation from RCTC, Nordhus was hired almost immediately by the New Brighton Police Department where he worked as a Police Officer for nearly two years. During his time at New Brighton, Nordhus was trained as a Field Training Officer, something he hopes to continue at Edina after he gets settled in. “The reputation of Edina -- the City itself and the Police Department -- both have great reputations,” Nordhus said about his choice to work for the department. “Edina is a little bigger of an agency than New Brighton and has a lot of different opportunities and specialties.” Nordhus began his training with Edina May 21 and has done firearms, defense tactics and medical response training. He has also spent time with police dispatch to learn more about the department and how it works together. “Travis just started his training but has brought a positive attitude and willingness to learn,” said Field Training Officer Jason Behr. “I am certain that Travis will remain this way when he enters his on the road portion of his training.” Nordhus will take to the streets June 1 for the first of three phases riding with Edina officers to gain a lay of the land and to see how Edina officers work in the field. “I’m excited to get on the road and to get to know the city and my partners more,” said Nordhus. “In the training process, you’re being evaluated, so it comes with a little nerves, but I’m excited to get out there.” For more information on Nordhus and his training process, contact him at TNordhus@EdinaMN.gov or contact Training Officer Jason Behr at JBehr@EdinaMn.gov. -30-
