The Minnesota Mosaic Guild Members Exhibition reception will take place in the Margaret Foss Gallery; the Orchids in the Garden reception will be in the Tea Room Gallery; and the Slow Stitch, Mindful & Contemplative, Textile Art Exhibition will be in the Clark Gift Gallery. All three opening receptions are free and open to the public. The Minnesota Mosaic Guild started in 2004 to promote mosaic art, foster exploration and experimentation in this art from, provide educational opportunities in mosaics and share the diversity of the art medium. The artists who will have work on display come from different backgrounds, including sculpture, jewelry making, graphic design, oil painting and art instruction. In total, 21 artists will participate and more than 60 pieces will be on display. The Orchids in the Garden exhibition will feature silk art from Jamie Kirkell. The art is a series of seven-foot tapestries and a collection of hand-painted silk scarves. Kirkell’s art was created after his service in the Peace Corps in the Philippines and is inspired by his training in Java while studying under Indonesian Batik Master Bambang Oetoro. The third exhibition with its opening reception on June 7 is Slow Stitch, Mindful & Contemplative, Textile Art. The exhibition will showcase pieces from Edina-based, independent designer Judy “Stitch” Gramaske. Darning, mending, kantha stitching and Japanese boro are the techniques Gramaske uses most often. Gramaske is proud her technique allows her to repurpose and re-piece fabrics together, giving them beautiful textures. Gramaske enjoys getting inspiration for her art while watching nature unfold through the seasons.
