PROCLAMATION
JEAN (AND JOHN) HEDBERG DAY
DECEMBER 16, 20I8
WHEREAS, Jean Hedberg and her husband John Hedberg have resided in Edina for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, During their many years in Edina, Jean and John have enriched Edina through their support for and
participation in many community organizations and activities; and
WHEREAS, Jean was, for many years, a member of the Edina Federal Women's Club ("Feds"), and served as its
President and also the Chair of its fundraiser, Santa House, participating every year as long as the
fundraiser was held. Jean was also instrumental in the Club's transition from Santa House to the
fundraising gala event it now holds annually; and has served as chair of these fundraisers as well; and
WHEREAS, Jean also served as Chair and thoughtful leader of the Braemar Golf Association for several years,
bringing active resident oversight to the City's golf facility. Jean has tirelessly promoted the Braemar
Memorial Fund and served on its Board as well; and
WHEREAS, Jean and John Hedberg have been great community philanthropists. They were the first family in Edina
to make a five-year Founders Club pledge commitment to the Edina Community Foundation ("ECF")
and later helped select and solely funded the iconic pinecone sculpture, Continuum, in Centennial
Lakes Park. Jean and John are members of ECF's Leadership Circle by virtue of their total
contributions and they are also members of the ECF Legacy Circle, recognizing their deferred giving
commitment to the ECF; and
WHEREAS, The City of Edina and its residents wish to recognize Jean and John Hedberg for their great loyalty to
and love for community, and their outstanding leadership to the betterment of Edina through a lifetime
of philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, There could be no better time to recognize their years of support to Edina than by officially
recognizing them on December 16, 2018, the date Jean Hedberg is turning ninety (90) years of age.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, James B. Hovland, Mayor of the City of Edina, do hereby proclaim December 16, 2018, as
Jean (and John) Hedberg Day
in Edina to honor their lifetime of exemplary citizenship, their demonstrated great loyalty and enthusiasm for our
community and most especially, to celebrate Jean Hedberg's 90th birthday while a resident of the City of Edina,
Minnesota. Our undying gratitude to Jean and John Hedberg for enriching our community and all of our lives through
their lifetime of generosity.
