The walk will be held at Fred Richards Park, 7640 Parklawn Ave. Participants should meet at the former clubhouse a few minutes before the start of the walk at 6:30 p.m. The Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail stretches through Hopkins, Minnetonka, Edina and Richfield. Part of the Edina segment, for which a grand-opening celebration was held earlier this summer, runs through Fred Richards Park. “It’s an awesome trail for recreation with its views of the creek and nature, plus it’s a great link to the trail system for commuting,” said Jason McGrew King, spokesman for the Three Rivers Park District. Participating in the Walk with the Mayor gives community members a chance to voice concerns, share opinions and thoughts as well as just talk with Mayor Jim Hovland while getting to know the city a little bit better. No registration is required to attend Walk With the Mayor; simply show up at the designated meeting time to walk and talk with Hovland. “As it’s newly opened in Fred Richards Park, I’m really looking forward to this month’s walk on the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail. It’s a beautiful amenity that the park offers and we benefit from here in Edina. I invite community members to come and join me for a walk and conversation on this picturesque trail,” Hovland said. Summer walks have been held weekdays to accommodate busy weekend schedules. Beginning in September, the walk will again be held on Saturdays. The September walk will be held 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at 50th & France. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. In the event of rain, the walk will be held at Southdale Center; participants should meet near the Caribou Coffee in the center court.
