The event will be held in the Council Chambers. Hawkinson hopes residents will attend to learn more about the process of creating and maintaining affordable housing. She also thinks representatives from the business community, who need housing for employees, would find it helpful. Others who might want to attend include those interested in Edina’s economic competitiveness. The City adopted an affordable housing policy in 2015 and most recently updated it in October. It requires portions of new rental developments to be dedicated to affording housing. Under the policy, to qualify for affordable housing, a family’s household income must be below 60 percent of the area’s median income. For instance, a family of four would qualify if their annual household income was below $56,580. For more information, contact Hawkinson at shawksinson@EdinaMN.gov or 952-833-9578. -30-
